The scope involved the redevelopment of a first-floor student concourse during term time to create a new Student Hub serving the Faculty of Health and Social Care.
Existing office accommodation adjoining the concourse was removed to enable the full width of the building to be utilised effectively, and to enhance the provision of natural light to both elevations.
The design approach involved the separation of the space in to a number of differing seating functions to enable the students flexible use of the Hub for informal meetings, dining, and as a work base. Wireless internet provision has been included and power supply plug in points are provided for laptop use. Fixed screens have been installed to subdivide the space and to support plasma screen displays. A video wall was also installed on the end wall of the Hub to display Faculty information.
