Plans in for Haslingden Market Transformation

Planning application for the Haslingden Market Regeneration Scheme has been submitted to the council.

Following Rossendale Borough Council’s success in securing UK Share Prosperity Funding, Wilson Mason LLP and Gosling Consulting have been appointed by the Council to revitalise the market to create a central, welcoming and bustling community space.

The design for the transformed Market is a bright and vibrant scheme, with a focus on food and drink and providing space for people to sit and socialise. The rejuvenated market will provide a variety of quality stalls with extended opening times and frequency, helping to reinstate the market as a central community hub.

The Market lies within the Haslingden Conservation Area and has a strong history of street markets, holding what is considered to be possibly the oldest street market licence in England. The regeneration of the market within Haslingden creates a valuable opportunity to grow the local economy, taking a positive bottom up approach to regeneration supporting new businesses by providing affordable premises from which they will be able to succeed and grow.

Associate Eleanor Wood, comments: “The regeneration of Haslingden Market will breathe new life into the town centre, creating a central hub for the community to meet, shop for quality produce and socialise in an accessible, inviting, and lively space.”

The revitalised market will open in 2024.
