Opening of ESA ECSAT Conference Centre
A busy July with the inauguration of the new Magali Vaissière Conference Centre at the ESA’s European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT) on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. The formal opening was unveiled by a host of dignitaries including ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher, the Rt Hon Chloe Smith, Rt Hon Lord David Willetts, Magali Vaissière, Paul Bate, Barbara Ghinelli, Nick Appleyard….and astronaut and ESA mascot – Shaun the Sheep to a packed conference hall of key members of the UK’s thriving space industry.
Adding a second new build Wilson Mason project to the ESA ECSAT site, this state-of-the-art conference centre includes a 300-person conferencing hall, meeting rooms, interpreter booths, break out and exhibition areas, café and catering facilities. Wilson Mason headed a multi discipline team providing Architecture, Interiors, Planning, MEP, Structures and Civils, Ecology, Fire, Catering Design, AV and Landscape Design, working through the design stages and remaining client side through the design and build construction contract.
From our initial sketches in 2017 to the completed project today, the Conference Centre has been a fantastic collaborative team effort from the whole delivery team including European Space Agency, UK Space Agency, and Amiri Construction. Not without complications, this has been a project that has been a pleasure to work on and shows quite what can be achieved when we all come together.
