Completion Phases 1-3 at Newham Hospital

Following initial works in 2017, Wilson Mason LLP have worked alongside Leonard Engineering Design Associates (MEP), Castons (QS), Turner & Townsend (Project Management), Bureau Veritas (Approved Inspectors & Fire Engineers) and the various Barts stakeholders on the Major Fire Improvements Programme at Newham University Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) since 2020.

The works have been broken down into 7 phases to suit the hospital’s ‘bed modelling’. We have successfully delivered 3 of these phases over 6 building contracts totalling £21m and have been closely involved in the planning of the further phases still to be undertaken.  Work completed to date has included various departments within the hospital including; Level 1 wards, Urgent Care Centre, Clinical Engineering, Education Centre, Operating Theatres, Executive Offices and Maternity Bookings.  In addition to the works within the occupied areas of the building there has also been the installation of a water misting suppression system within the roof voids to protect the clinical floor below.

The areas completed have been handed back to the hospital for immediate reoccupation and return to functioning departments.  The project has delivered refurbished spaces that have received substantial fire improvements to the building fabric and detection/alarm systems. Also, during the works an improved level of finish and fit out has been provided, where practical, with additional funding streams to improve functionality and infection control.
