Shell Conference Centre

The project proposes the conversion of existing buildings to create new facilities to serve 700 site personnel, enhance catering and dining areas, and produce an exhibition space.

The building is of particular importance due to its historical connections with the development of aviation and jet engine fuels during the Second World War. Proposals were developed whilst working in close co-operation with the local planning and conservation officers as well as the 20th Century Society to provide an innovative solution that respects the existing structure whilst providing a modern working environment.

The agreed approach, which was granted Listed Building consent, was to develop a new single storey modern wing to the original building. This was connected by a glazed link to the historic building allowing the character of the original building to be maintained whilst enabling the new addition to complement the original design.
