The project provides a 5,000m² BSU facility incorporating experimental research accommodation and laboratories. Special features include robotic handling, vaporized hydrogen peroxide fumigation, air showers, discrete operational circulation flows, and a dedicated energy centre.
The two-stage contract procurement enabled the successful contractor to become involved in the detailed design development and price element packages, through sub-contract returns, to achieve a guaranteed maximum price. This was agreed with the client prior to the placement of the construction contract, at which point the design team were novated to the contractor.
