Marine Centre Wales
Sympathetically integrating into the built landscape of the town of Menai and overlooking Menai Straight, a high quality contemporary building was created which enhances the local conservation area whilst presenting the new public face for the School and University’s Menai Bridge campus. The building recognises Bangor University’s global status, establishing Wales as a major player in the global marine sector and serves as promotion, management, and implementation of MCW at a national and international level.
The project provides a facility which promotes accessibility for business to the lab expertise of academics. The design provides flexible, dynamic, and multi functional learning and office spaces. A range of shared facilities have been accommodated, including geological analysis, constant temperature rooms of environmental analysis, core sample storage areas, internal ‘wet’ storage for exploration equipment, and CEFAS licensed areas.
All lab areas are designed as ACDP Cat 2 labs which are carefully integrated and located within the building to ensure that their security is readily preserved.
The building achieved BREEAM ‘excellent’, incorporating the use of sustainable CLT timber as the building structure.
