Allam Building

This contemporary facility sits in the heart of the University campus, and provides a link between the busy Chemistry and Biology departments. The location of the building actively enables connectivity and networking, as well as encouraging an interdisciplinary working environment.

Exploiting a site previously considered undevelopable, the design had to accommodate two adjacent buildings and a mature tree, both of which were successfully preserved. The delivered project boasts high levels of natural light and ventilation across the open plan and cellular office space. Flood-resilient laboratory areas are situated on the upper storeys of the building, offering views overlooking the campus. As well as spacious general laboratories, state-of-the-art facilities also include a cold room, tissue culture rooms, dark rooms, and a -80°C freezer room.
