In 2009, Booths instructed Wilson Mason to redesign the store at Hesketh Bank to respond to a revised brief. The design was arranged to mimic the market garden glass-house structures which are located in the surrounding countryside.
Following the client’s purchase, the design for the store embraces its location and forms an eco-friendly development. The structure of the leaf shaped building is constructed out of timber from sustainable sources and the mechanical scheme incorporates ground loop heating and cooling. The waste heat from the refrigeration compressors has been utilised to provide under floor heating in the main retail areas. The cool originating from the open freezers and chilled cabinets is distributed around the building during the summer to aid the store’s overall temperature.
