The project is part of the strategy of Danish furniture retailer ILVA to build a number of high quality stores within the UK.

The Manchester site is within the Piccadilly Basin, a National Heritage section of the Rochdale Canal, Close to the Centre of Manchester. The unique characteristics of the site have informed the orientation of the store which faces the canal, whilst the significant change in level across the site has allowed for the development of a two storey car park and a valuable basement area for stockroom and customer collection.

The store follows the existing Danish model, of large format, spacious, retail accommodation on two levels with large areas of structural glazing, and extensive use of natural materials such as basalt and timber. The store includes a top-lit atrium reception area, glass feature lifts and balustrading, stainless steel staircases and stone and natural timber flooring.

The accommodation comprises 13,250 sq m of accommodation on two floors with a part basement level. The two level car park immediately adjacent the store has space for 220 cars with entry level at ground floor.
