Centre for Clinical Care and Research
Wilson Mason’s design for a Centre for Clinical Care and Research aims to establish a world-class facility in which patient care and cutting-edge cancer research takes place.
An open and expansive main entrance area has been designed to be clearly locatable, transparent, and impressive as well as welcoming, inviting, and comforting. The reception is located around a central atrium which provides an easily navigable flow between the distinct functions of the facility. Break out spaces have also been incorporated to allow different user groups to have the opportunity for formal or chance interaction.
Carefully selected materials and the use of natural light were key to creating a warm and welcoming environment for patients on what is often an intense emotional journey.
Utilising in-built renewable energies has been an important consideration in the design process. PV-T panels, ground source heat pumps, wind capture, grey water for WC facilities, intelligent BMS, and censored LED lighting have all been integrated within the design. The building form and materials have been used to passively regulate temperature, air quality, and provide acoustic separation and absorption.
