William Goodenough House, Goodenough College
The extension was designed to provide a link between the east and west sides of the existing building. New studio flats were created in the east courtyard basement with a new lightwell offering a private timber decked terrace. The two-storey extension added to the building, providing 54 additional study rooms and 2 new studio flats.
Sustainability and energy savings were at the heart of the scheme, with the new extension including an area of green roof and photovoltaic panels.
The architectural and structural detailing of the new extension ensures that it seamlessly blends with the existing buildings on the complex.
“The transformation has been dramatic, not only visually, but functionally by making the College much more accessible and inviting to residents and visitors…” Janine Binks, Director of Operations, Goodenough College.
