Materials Discovery Facility
Comprising the complex refurbishment of five floors of laboratory, teaching, and write-up space for a number of University departments, the key aim for this project was to create a world-class Materials Discovery Facility that would provide a central space for materials based research.
As well as modifying and upgrading existing laboratories, new laboratory areas were created through the consolidation and extension of existing space. Three new clean rooms were established which included electromagnetic shielding to one laboratory. Fume cupboards were substantially increased – including both walk in and standard – along with the extensive deployment of Nederman extract arms.
The project also involved the creation of exceptional facilities for the Materials Discovery Hub as well as Chemical Engineering, allowing for their planned expansion. Close liaison with end users, project management, and other consultants was carried out in order to realise a complex and developing brief.
