London House Goodenough College
The project delivers the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building designed by Sir Herbert Baker. The building is arranged around a landscaped courtyard and comprises student accommodation of 9 flats and 299 study bedrooms with associated shared facilities.
Forensic research in to decorations and building fabric, together with the development of appropriate finishes schemes, was required to address Listed Building Consent’s strict standards in the submitted proposal. The scope also included extensive works to the existing building interior, most notably to upgrade the ‘public’ spaces.
Public areas include Reception, Great Hall, Vestibule, Library, Churchill Room, Chapel, Bar/ Dining area, and two Common Rooms. Support facilities include butteries, commercial kitchens, and a laundry.
Accessibility was improved through the introduction of a new wheelchair accessible WC, new ramps to the reception, and a platform lift to the main bar/ dining facility.
“Wilson Mason supported us at every step of the way through our major refurbishment programme. The transformation has been dramatic, not only visually, but functionally by making the College much more accessible and inviting to residents and visitors…” Janine Binks, Director of Operations, Goodenough College.
